Cisco Password Protection...
I am thinking about replacing my netscreen Router wil a Cisco device, as well as changing ISP.
My question is....
What sort of protection do cicso routers offer against brute forcing of passwords? can the router send you an email after 3 failed attempts for example?
Any URLs explaining the protection cicso devices have in place would be most helpful, personal experience would also be appriciated.
Cheers

Ususally 3 attempts and a failed screen is now somewhat standard with most any routers now a days. What your describing sounds more like a hybrid device and not a tradtional router or IDS. Cisco has doesn't have a true hybid device that I'm aware of. You can use one of their routers with basic security adding rules as needed (like accept from ip x.x.x.x only, no banner, non-descript device name etc...) and the PIX or thier own CIDS for IDS/firewall for your detection, notification and deterance. Thier web site leaves alot to be desired when it comes to user friendlyness especially for trying to find the info your looking of. I'll take a look around it and post back if I find anything on your question. What sort of protection do cicso routers offer against brute forcing of passwords? can the router send you an email after 3 failed attempts for example?
My experience has been Cisco Products are very good, very expensive very easy to find techs for products but lousy on web support for the rest of us that don't dedicate our entire lives to only Cisco products.
On thier product line, my experience is limited to 1600, 1700, and 2400 router product lines.
