As far as I know I am using XScreensaver. I got a command not found error for that instruction. Should I install that screensaver?...

TBH, it should work with xscreensaver. After resume, the screensaver is running, right?

Try it with the mate-screensaver package, make sure you replace it. Maybe temporarily delete xscreensaver just to be sure?

Thank you. When you said earlier you were confused, so was I. I am still confused, but thank you for the help
    Code:
    sudo yum remove xscreensaver
    [sudo] password for campbell:
    Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
    No Match for argument: xscreensaver
    No Packages marked for removal
    [campbell@localhost ruth-r]$ sudo yum install mate-screensaver
    Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
    Resolving Dependencies
    etc etc
    Code:
    mate-screensaver-command --lock
** Message: Screensaver is not running!
    [xxx@localhost]$ mate-screensaver

    ^C
    [xxx@localhost]$ mate-screensaver&
    [1] 23635
    [xxx@localhost]$ mate-screensaver-command --lock
Planets appear: I moved the mouse and a please enter password box appeared. Which is exactly what I expected.
Push hibernate button: no planets, and no password box when I booted the computer again.

Oddly enough, when I entered sudo yum install xscreensaver, I got
    Code:
    Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
    Resolving Dependencies
    --> Running transaction check
    ---> Package xscreensaver.x86_64 1:5.20-3.fc18 will be installed
    etc etc
Will post again if that makes any difference.

I'm not sure, but try to reboot between attempts. I do not now how/when/where the 'default' screensaver is determined.

Would be nice if you could post the output of:

    Code:
    ps aux
You said you thought you had xscreensaver. Did you ever had a screensaver before all of this? Did it actually work? E.g. appart from messing around with the settings. The above command will hopefully reveal that. Because SOMETHING is blanking your screen... right??

I got a lot for ps -aux, but appear to have lost it. I did have a process 9453 which was xscreensaver, running since Jan29 (when I appeared not to have xscreensaver!!) and mate-screensaver since 14.31 today (timezone = GMT).
Poweroff and reboot→requested password from hibernate and from suspend, and I now have one process for screensavers, as far as I can see, no 1664
    Code:
    ps -aux

My screensaver did not appear to work until I changed the settings and it said xscreensaver-daemon not running, should we start daemon. That was yesterday, and has happened on previous occasions.

Anyway, mate-screensaver seems to do the job
    Thank you.

    Try again:
Uninstall mate-screensaver and xscreensaver: no password prompt.
Reinstall xscreensaver: no password prompt even if I restart the xscreensaver daemon.
    Reinstall mate-screensaver: hibernate→nothing.
Reinstall mate-screensaver, reboot and hibernate→password prompt on waking up

Thank you for all the help yesterday.
