    Monitoring of root logins / last log?


    Is it wise to monitor "last" log and get notiffied by email when an IP other then one i set appears? Or something similar?

    I would say that is very wise to do. Especially if the linux box in question is a publicly accessible and facing server. May also want to monitor /var/log/messages and look for su attempts. That way you have a report of when people have escalated privileges.
