How to upgrade 'bash' to avoid bash bug?

Hi all, I was reading that Debian suggests an update and install of the latests bash software. I've had a little bit of difficulty as I'm sort of chicken to do a re-install of something that is probably being used when I do it.

Any comments on how this is done safely?

Sorry, right after I entered this, I received a software update, with bash shell in the list!

Thanks... I will end this in a couple of days, as I'm still curious

this is a typical use case of what is called "security updates".
so, a simple update/upgrade/whatever your packet manager uses. should've solved it by now.
if the update/grade still didn't arrive, you are using the wrong distro.
i have it already in archlinux, but also debian stable has it already.

Thanks, I've broken this before and thought I should check before I did something stupid again...

    Thanks
