Login Password

I have just been given a hard drive with Red Hat Linux (Weasel ) on it and it is asking for me for a login and password.
I am new to linux and dont know how to get around this problem.
Obviously someone in the past has put a password on this o/s but how can i replace it and keep using the linux??
Any help would be greatly recieved.

boot up with runlevel 1 (start lilo, and enter the default image, eg. "linux 1") so you get root straight away. Then you type "passwd" and set the new password.
