Increase min/max password length
Hi!
I use Suse 8.2.
I was unable to change the password length of the users including root.
I used Yast2 --> Security & users --> Security settings --> Custom settings --> Next --> Password Length --> Min 9 Max 15 --> Next ... Finish. I made sure it was written to /etc/login.defs and rebooted the system. Then I changed the root password using the passwd command to exceed 10 chars. Similarly I changed the users passwords to exceed 10 chars. But when I rebooted the system it was back to max 8 chars password length. What am I missing out?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
this is, most probably, because you've not changed the Encryption method for password. Default is DES that does not allow passwords more then 8 chars long, regardless of Min and Max fields. To reach your goal you should change the encryption method to MD5 or Blowfish.
