    how do I create a password on directories and files?

    I want to create a password on some of the files on my server. I am running Fedora Core server. Can anyone help me in how to create a password on files or the whole directories? I hope it is not too complicated. I tried following the instructions from these sites. But nothing is happening on my Fedora Core HTTP web server. I don't get a username and password prompt.

    http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess3.shtml and http://www.tools.dynamicdrive.com/password/

    I've tried doing this and does not work. what am I doing wrong? Do I need to make changes into my httpd.conf file. I googled this and some instructions tell me to change the directive AllowOverride none to AllowOverride AuthConfig.

    I am not sure where to make the changes in the httpd.conf file.

    thanks in advance

    This problem is fixed!

    steps to configure password protected directories.
    1. edit httpd.conf
    <Directory "/var/www/html">
    change AllowOverride None to AllowOverride AuthConfig
    </Directory>
    2. <Directory /home/*/public_html>
    change AllowOverride None to AllowOverride AuthConfig
    </Directory>
    3. use the online tool to create .htaccess and .htpasswd files. and place them in appropriate locations.

    http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess3.shtml and http://www.tools.dynamicdrive.com/password/
    restart httpd

    ns-2 an an emulator

    Hi, this is my first message in this forum. I believe that I will have a useful answer about anything over Linux. I do not have an experience on any version of Linux, but I will use Slackware version of it for my project. I want to install NS-2 over my Slackware operating system. Can I find any tutorial to this over Slackware? Or just the installation of ns-2 is the same everywhere ? The another important question: "Does Ns-2 work over Slackware ?"

    In fact, I want to emulate my wireless network using RTP, RTSP protocols, but also the whole background wireless network issues altogether like UMTS, GSM etc... (packet delay, bandwidth limitations, packet loss etc...)

    NS-2 is a simulator, but I found that we can use it as an emulator for wireless networks. (by some patchs for ns-2)

    That is the reference: http://nsnam.isi.edu/nsnam/index.php...s_and_Mobility

    Do you think that NS-2 can be used as an emulator in this situation ? Or shall I find myself an another emulator ?

    Thanks...

    Help needed soon ((
