    Please help!!


    Hello,..
    My brother just died, he had a webDesign company. On his laptop he backed up a new website that should be lunched, but his laptop is secured by a password. The os = Linux Ubuntu

    Does anybody know how to recover his original password?

    i hoop so,.... (not onley because of the website, but also his pictures )

    Well since you have physical access to his computer... you could boot up a live linux CD to access the data.

    If you want to log in to his existing installation:

    -Boot up a live CD
    -In terminal as root... type "mkdir /mnt/hda1" then "mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1" (assuming hda1 is the partition with his install
    -chroot /mnt/hda1 passwd

    Then enter your new password. This will be the password for root on his install. Logged in as root you can change his user pass should the need arise.
