this has been something i been sooo curious on for the longest time i have a lil linksys router the 4port dsl/router swtich..... is it better idea to crank the firewall up on that or the linux box? i plan to do both obviously.....but whats your thoughts on that?
The more security, the better off you are.
Crank them both up. Better yet: replace the router with an old P1 running smoothwall with 2 NICs. :wink:
shrug cant really do that.....u can say my network here is pretty afro engineered... odd setup i know i couldnt run any new wires and my parents were snobby blah blah blah same story so way i had to run the network wasQuote:

i mean, should you only run one, and not be offering any server services, I would go with the hardware firewall, as it offers little that a cracker or virus can actualy do it it. Again, the more services you have running, the more likely it is that somone can find a way in. But best bet is both.
