    Squid error

    Dear all,

    Please assist.
    Users behind my squid proxy(version
2.5)cannot do a successful ping to addresses on the
internet e.g Yahoo! etc. It comes with this
error: "ping request could not find host
Yahoo!, please check the name and try again".
when i use the IP it replies with "request timed out".
The port I use on squid is 2880 and I do not have
firewall configured. The irony is that though this
addresses cannot be pinged, but can be surfed. Please
help out. i need to be able to ping on clients behind
    my squid server.

    many thanks

when you try to ping, it is not routed through the proxy ip : port. it tries to reach internet directly and hence gives error even though you are able to browse - 'coz the browser is routed thru proxy ip : port.

i think your problem can be sorted out using iptables on linux box but am not very familiar with the exact config. i am facing same problem with mail clients 'coz they are trying to reach internet directly.

    regards
    gorav.
