I hope this is the correct forum for this post. If not, please point me to the right place. Thanks.

The Open University in the UK will be conducting a trial of electronic marking of mathematics assignments. Students will email an exchange mailbox with their work attached as a .zip file. The attachment will be processed (to convert it to Word 2007) and then the processed assignment will be sent to a marker, archiving a copy.

We should like to develop a script (preferably running under Linux but Windows would be OK) that periodically interrogates the exchange server mailbox and processes the email as described.

We would be grateful for any advice on how best to achieve this in a simple and robust manner.

Many thanks for your help.
