Can someone help me find a tool or a script for parsing /var/spool/mail/root ?

I want to separate the entries in the file and find all of the bouncebacks so I can work with them. (A tool which did this for me would be great, too.)

I can't imagine that it hasn't been done before, but after a few hours of looking online, I can't seem to find anything that will help.

Using something like PINE in a command line script to open mail items and put them in individual files somewhere might be another option, but I haven't found anything down that route either.
