I am in the process of building my new dhcpd server to replace our current microsoft dhcp server. I have already built my linux dns servers and have them ready to go. my problem is this: we have an active directory enviroment with 3 domains. i want the new dhcp server to do all the dns updates for our clients and not allow clients to do their own updates. After reading through the man pages for dhcpd.conf, this doesnt look possible. the closest way that i can see will allow the dhcp server to update the PTR record but it will append its own FQDN to the clients A record. I know microsoft does its updates via kerberos but i am not aware of bind being able to do secure updates with the client computers, only if you use dhcp and use the dhcp server to do the updates. any info or links to documentation covering this would be great!
