MediaWIki installation

First of all, I have no knowledge of application servers.
I have installed MedaiWiki and apache from synaptic in Ubuntu.
To which directory are the above programs installed?
Where does apache store the files and how do i see MediaWiki's start page?
Do i need to send you any configuration files?

I get the following message:

Site settings could not be loaded

We were unable to locate the API to request site settings. Please see below for debugging information.

HTTP Response Status Code: 500

The API says: wiki 'default' has failed to initialize or did not start up properly: Initialization exception: System.NotSupportedException: CodePage 1252 not supported at System.Text.Encoding.GetEncoding (Int32 codePage) [0x00000] at MySql.Data.MySqlClient.Driver..ctor (MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnectionStringBuild er settings) [0x00000] at MySql.Data.MySqlClient.NativeDriver..ctor (MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnectionStringBuild er settings) [0x00000] at MySql.Data.MySqlClient.Driver.Create (MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnectionStringBuild er settings) [0x00000] at MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlPool..ctor (MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnectionStringBuild er settings) [0x00000] at MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlPoolManager.GetPool (MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnectionStringBuild er settings) [0x00000] at MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnection.Open (Boolean allowPooled) [0x00000]

I have done no configuration to MySql.
I also installed MindTouch wiki before mediawiki, but it did not work.
