    Help~!Permissions!

    I am using apache to set-up a server in Ubuntu (8.04LTS).
    in /var/www/ I can't change Permissions(It must be root).
    So that i can't modify any content in /var/www/
    How to change the Permissions?
    I can't login as root in the login page.
    ONLY IN CONSOLE(USING `su` command.)
