    550 Permissions Denied

I am using Linux version 9.0. I have the following problem. I keep getting a 550 permission denied error when I try to ftp a file to the system. I have played with chmod on the file and chown and chgrp. I even did a chmod to the file of 777 and still got the same error. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? If you need anymore information please let me know.

Do you have write permissions to the DIRECTORY that you are trying to put it in?

    More information

I have write permissions to the directory. I also am the owner of the directory. That is not the problem. I can ssh into the system and create fills and directories in that folder and create folders. It only happens when I ftp to the directory which is my home directory that I get the 550 permissions denied message. Here are the permissions within the directory rwx r r. Remember I even made the file rwx rwx rwx and it didn't make a difference for ftp.
