    Mysql problems

    When i run mysqld_safe i get

Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
    040914 17:27:52 mysqld ended
so i open up the error log file and it says

    040914 15:10:46 mysqld started
InnoDB: unable to create ./innodb.status.23617: Permission denied
    040914 15:10:46 Can't init databases
    040914 15:10:46 Aborting

040914 15:10:46 InnoDB: Warning: shutting down a not properly started
    InnoDB: or created database!
    040914 15:10:46 /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown Complete

    040914 15:10:46 mysqld ended

Is there a way to set permissions for innodb.status.23617 ??

I am a newbie and this is my first use of mysql [/i]

Are you starting mysqld as root?
