Can't get sample homepage on Apache
This isn't so much a question about Linux as it is about Apache. I'm trying to run an Apache server on a windows XP machine. The first time, I made up a domain name and server name which brought me to some other website. Then i reinstalled it and used "localhost" for the name (which an article i found online suggested) and that simply brought me to a blank HTML document saying "It Works!" (I'm assuming this is the default output for localhost since i still got this page even when i stopped Apache). The error log doesn't seem to have any errors other than not finding the icon
I'm not really sure why this is happening and most of the documentation i'm finding is way over my head. Any assistance would be appreciated

I am assuming this is because you used a domain name that is being used publicly, and when your machine tried to find the IP address of the domain it found it on the internet. You can fix this by typing in the IP address of your apache server, creating an entry on your dns server, or editing the hosts file on the all hosts you want to connect with.
This is strange. The page should not show up when Apache is not running. Try refreshing your browser.
The error log looks like everything is running fine.
