Apache: Many threads stuck in "Logging" status

One one of our servers we will have a situation a few times a week where Apache seems to go nuts. We end up with more and more processes sitting in "L" status until there are no free slots left and the server resets itself.

This is the output from our server status page. All the other servers run just fine.

    Anyone experienced and fixed this?

    Thanks for any help.

    Code:

    Try:
    netstat -plan|grep :80|awk {'print $5'}|cut -d: -f 1|sort|uniq -c|sort -nk 1

    Also check your logs.
More details would help in solving this.

We found a solution. I can't say it's the only solution!

In our case, the log files were huge as the logrotate cron job wasn't running on one of our servers. Now that the logs are rotating correctly, it's fine.

There may be a lot of causes, like ddos attacks, disk space (caused by no log rotation, small partition, etc), apache configured wrong, etc.

If you have the same problem then you should check the loging system.

I have disabled mod_security logs and it seems to work.
Thank you for your help !
