Japanese Characters - Junk display
Hi,
We are using MandrakeLinux9.1,KDE desktop, Apache2-2.0.44-11mdk. We have two versions of our website. One in English and the other in Japanese language. When we access the website the English version displays correctly. In the home page of English Version we have a link for Japanese version. If we click the link the Japanese web page displays but the japanese characters are not being displayed properly. Browser used IE6.It displays junk characters. The japanese character set used in the code of the html pages is Shift_jis.Somebody please help us in sorting out this problem.
Regards,
Munib

sounds like the problem may be not having Japanese character support on the client machine.. also make sure the server has NLS for Japanese codepages installed... try it with a standards-compliant browser (such as firefox)... the way most people here think is that if a browser isn't standards compliant and screws up a web page, that's the browser's fault and the page should not be modified so that a non-compliant browser will display it properly.. this is because making a page work in a non-compliant browser generally breaks compatiblity with compliant browsers.

It cannot be browser problem,I think. Because, earlier we had some previous version of Apache and the japanese page was being displayed properly. Now, after installing Apache2, we face this problem. Also when we visit some other Japanese websites, the pages are being displayed properly. This means that the client is OK. Any other possibility?
