Samba Server Problems

Running a fresh install on CentOS 5.5.

Trying to get Samba server setup to authenticate users from a Windows Active Directory that I have setup.

I've succeeded in configuring WinBind so that I can log into the CentOS machine using Windows Active Directory Users, however, whenever I try and browse or map to a Samba file share, I just get an error message:

unknown user name or bad password

Tried connecting from multiple Windows machines, both from domain members and non-domain members.

Help please.

Also: In addition to being able to log into the server -- via SSH and at the console -- using Active Directory user names and passwords, I can also successfully kinit Active Directory users.

The issue is most probably with your smb.conf file. Successful working of Login and kinit is not confirming about the format of smb.conf;

a quick look @ ur smb.conf feel like u had missed some values in it...

pls have a look at this example

I tried redoing smb.conf as per the instructions you linked, but it caused smb to not only not start working, but also caused winbind to stop working, and the smb service wouldn't even start...

Here's what my smb.conf looked like (I went back to the old one, which, while non-functional, still allowed Samba to work...):
