I've tried everything on google and restarted the server each time. Please help.

too little information you offer here
    but
postfix transports your mail FROM THE world into your mail boxes or from your PC to the world
dovecot stores the mail into your mail boxes "Maildir"

hence a modern mail server is a combination of postfix/dovecot (or some other combination if you prefer more problems)
