What do you suggest?
I recently acquired a Cisco Media Convergence Server 7800
I need a linux distro with a basic gui (blackbox like) either pre-installed or with the ability to install it.
I need to share a printer with multiple machines across the network with both linux and windows OS's
I wish to also use it as a simple file server in which I can access files from either a machine at school or my android phone.
Is this possible with linux? Or will I have to try other methods?

Debian would be my first suggestion.
You can perform a minimal installation, and simply add the components that you need from there.
ssh will do what you need for file access.
Samba and CUPS will handle most of your printing needs.Jay

Can I move files from my server to a remote pc with ssh? I assumed it was only remote admin but you couldn't transfer files.

I forgot to mention SFTP. But, yes...
Using ssh you'll be able to manage file transfers.Jay
