looks like a typo, it should be /tmp/mys ql tmp , right?...

Yes, was a typo.... though, shouldn't affect the use of the logfile ... maybe if I take the redirect to tmp out.... yep, deleted the tmp and pid file reference in my.cnf... AND NOW IT WORKS. an edit I pulled off the some university professor showing off... Thanks Atreyu, say what do you think the name was the kid called out at the end of the neverending story?
