Can't get a basic postfix setup to work

I'm trying to configure basic email services for a small website but I'm stuck.

So I installed the mail stack delivery on an ubuntu server box as described in the official ubuntu server guide (can't post the link, due to spam protection)

As suggested in that document, I telneted into por 25 to check if it was working but apparently SSL auth is not working.
    How do I enable it?

    Code:
    telnet localhost 25
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
    Connected to localhost.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 localhost ESMTP Postfix (Ubuntu)
    ehlo localhost
    250-localhost
    250-PIPELINING
    250-SIZE 10240000
    250-VRFY
    250-ETRN
    250-STARTTLS
    250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
    250-8BITMIME
    250 DSN
I tried to configure thunderbird to read the email, it did fetch the certificate but the password is not accepted.

How do I enable SMTP-AUTH and TLS? Also, what did I miss from the ubuntu server guide? It should work..

    Hi zimbro,

Have you installed courier IMAP and POP3 as well, if yes can you telnet successfully port 110 and 143.

    Thanks,
