smtpd unable to connect to database (mysql)

    Hello,

I am a bit at a loss at the moment.

After setting up an Ubuntu server with postfix/courier and mysql virtual user support I found I can receive but not send mails. Finally auth.log gave me some hints:

    Code:
postfix/smtpd[2143]: sql auxprop plugin using mysql engine
postfix/smtpd[2143]: sql plugin Parse the username user(at)domain.com
postfix/smtpd[2143]: sql plugin try and connect to a host
postfix/smtpd[2143]: sql plugin trying to open db 'mail' on host '127.0.0.1'
postfix/smtpd[2143]: sql plugin could not connect to host 127.0.0.1
postfix/smtpd[2143]: sql plugin couldn't connect to any host
    I checked the configuration of
    /etc/postfix/sasl/smtpd.conf
    /etc/pam.d/smtp
for errors concerning the mysql access or some unnessecary blanks or other mistakes. [update] Also considered problems with ownership and read access.

    And checked manuell database login:
    mysql -u <user> -h 127.0.0.1 -p
    without any problems.

    What did I miss?

Any hints are very much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Fargoch

    Okay, problem solved.
It was really a typo in one of the passwords.
    One should be able to tell a '6' from a 'G' ...

    Regards,
