Cyberfed: check your syslogs for indications on why apache won't start. If you can't find anything there, try starting "httpd -X" and see if it says anything.

Cyberfed,
run the following command:
httpd -t , this will check for the syntax of all the config files.
then run a httpd -k stop/start and see what error logs you are getting...
when you do a
ps -ef | grep httpd , what results do you get?
