Question RECOMMEND: Linux Server Distro similar to QNAP or Synology OS?

    Hello All,

Wondering if there exists a Linux server OS with similar appearance/functionality to the OSs of QNAP or Synology NASes?

What I need: A file/media server. Instead of buying a QNAP or Synology, I like choosing my own hardware, but I do like the QNAP & Synology interface. Not only would I like this Linux distro to serve movie directly to my HDTV via HDMI, but I'll also be using it as a file/backup server. If I could do it via 802.11AC wireless, that would be perfect.

Experience: Mac OS & Windows & FreeNAS. I've run the latest versions of Ubuntu & Mint, but I'm mostly a Linux noob who relies on finding info online to get a Linux PC to do what I need.

Ubuntu & Mint, while decent, just don't "do it for me" interface wise.

    Thanks!
