    Sendmail + Slackware

I have tried probaly 10 different guides to get sendmail working on my box, and i can never seem to get it working

    my situation is this:

    i have a domain *vid-games.com*
that i want my mail server to send/recieve/whatever mail for vid-games.com

can you walk me thru as simply as possible about creating a sendmail configuration file and setting up the server?

i am really getting rather frustrated, so please dont be an @$$ and tell me to google, ive been going at this for 3 days.

any help would be greatly appreciated

You could learn the sendmail marco language but that will take some time.
A fast way of creating sendmail configs is to use : Webmin
    Download it and install it.
Use your webbrowser to connect to your sendmail server and connect to it at port 10000.
Login using the during installation supplied username and password.

    Search under servers for Sendmail.
Now you can configure sendmail without the trouble of learning the marco language.

If you run a local DNS server, you'll have to create a mailer record for your domain, pointing to the right IP.

    Good luck.

The Sendmail M4 configuration base directory /usr/share/sendmail/cf/cf/ was not found on your system, or is not the correct directory. Maybe it has not been installed (common for packaged installs of Sendmail), or the module config is incorrect.

i got this error when using webmin... any ideas?

Download the source package from www.sendmail.org
    You'll need the tar.gz.
When you unpack it you'll find in the sendmail-x.x.x dir the cf/cf directory.
It contains the source macro files.
I've created a directory mail in /etc and copied cf/cf to there.
Then I reconfigured the webmin module to look for the cf files in /etc/mail/cf/cf

    That should fix it.

Ok thanks, I will do that later and tell you how it goes.

    Also, i followed this guide

    http://shilo.is-a-geek.com/slack/sendmail18.html

    to get a working sendmail.

perhaps you could point me in the right direction after that? for some retarded reason it is absolutely refusing to allow hotmail, yahoo etc to send mail TO my domain, but i can send mail FROM my domain to them.

    thanks again

From the howto is seems that Slack by default places the cf and mc files in:
    /usr/share/sendmail/cf/cf/
I copied them to /etc/mail because there they stay the way I want and do not get modified if you upgrade your system using pkgtool or slack-get.
I also compile sendmail myself, I use some non default settings etc.

I'll continue reading the howto and tell you my findings this evening.

I installed a default *no changes to install script* installaion of slackware 10 on another machine and will be figuring out sendmail on there. All i want is for my internet domain *vid-games.com* to be served by my slackware machine with sendmail. i have about 30 people's accounts that need to be back online as soon as possible *i was using Windows Server 2003 with Exchange Enterprise* so I'd like to think that Linux and Sendmail wouldnt be so hard

I just want it to work, nothing more After it gets working, i can tweak it later.

Thank your so much for your help so far, and perhaps you will find something that I missed

Also, i get something about relaying denied when i send mail TO my mail server
but when i send out email FROM my mail server, it gets thru. Any ideas about that?

What is webmin saying. Is it unable to resolve any of the config files ?
