SMB Cant contact Nautilus
hello,
can you help me sort this out.
i have samba installed, everything was working before, I could share files between linux and windows. After starting samba on my Linux machine, I tried to access the Network Servers area and I get this error:
"Couldnt displa "smb:///", because Nautilus cannot contact the SMB master browser.
Check that an SMB server is running in the local network"
please note that i had restarted samba over and over again....
"service smb restart" and I got a host of "ok's"
what could be the problem

Try with Konqueror instead, Nautilus has kind of crappy support for SMB.

if you try konqueror you will find your samba server in the address bar.
like this
smb://machinename/share
for me it is
smb://adrenaline/music
Nautilus is kind of crappy. try restarting X. I am not sure what distro you are using but I have found Nautilus to be breaky in Fedora.
One more thing to try
open a term and type
nautilus network:
and see what that brings. If all else fail use konqueror as stated above.

Konqueror is a web browser.
- 03-24-2005 #6It is not only a web browser, it is also a kde based filemanagerm, such as Nautilus.

You won't have any problems running those programs side by side. Konqueror is a web browser and you can download it from here
http://www.kde.org/download/
