mysql and mythtv
ERROR 2002: CAn't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysqld.sock' (111)
trying to start a mythfrontend but I can't connect to the database, and mythfrontend fails. I also get the above error when I type "mysql" at the root prompt.
I'm pretty dumb but I could sure use the help.

Is MySQL actually running on your box? You should get something returned if you type this at a konsole:
Also did you complie it yourself or was it pre-installed on your distro?Code:ps -e |grep mysql

self compiled with stage 1 gentoo and portage ..
yes that was the issue .. told you I was dumb .. but to my own miniscule credit I did get that one figured out myself .. thanks ..
my new problem is that I can't run mythbackend as the mythtv user .. I get a segmentation fault ...
- 10-18-2005 #4Kust an idea .. but you could try knoppmyth instead, all the myth programs and prerequisite applications running on a knoppix live cd. Gentoo has a reputation for being difficult to configure ....
