vsftp issues

hi all ...

ok the system is running FC4 and so far all seams to be good ... except for vsftp...

my problem is that when i log onto the ftp server from my XP machine i can upload and download files to the user root directory but i cant seam to upload files to other Directorys that the user has access to

case in point is a user named lynx who was created as a webspace user initially the account was created with its home directory in /var/www/html/lynx so that the webserver would find it and serve the content i get a message of
"500 OOPS: cannot change directory:/var/www/html/lynx" now loging into the machine as that user sure enought my home directory is in the html tree and i can fully access files there ...

when later i change the lynx home to /home/lynx/ and try to FTP stuff there its ok .. it allows me to put files up delete them rename them its fine ..

i thne created a symlink from "/home/lynx/wwwroot to /var/www/html/lynx" the sym link is there and i can copy daya into and out of the symlink however when i go back to the FTP and log in sure enough i can ftp files into the users home drive vut as soon as i try to push the files into the sym link i get the error "550 Failed to change directory."now looking at man opages has led me to think that it may be a problem with "chroot_local_user" being set but this dose not appear in my config file and it is defaulted to NO

maybe it has something to do with the permisions that user has to write to that dir. try with
local_umask=000 and see if that's the problem.

I'm having the same issues...how did you resolve this?? I tried the local_umask=000 and that didn't fix it.../var/www/html is chmod 0777

Hi All,

"550 cannot change directory" is not the problem from vsftpd.conf
It is the problem of SELinux

Solution:
vi /etc/selinux/config
change a parameter SELINUX=enforcing
to be SELINUX=permissive

and then
/etc/init.d/sshd restart

I have done what Suwat has suggested, as I have been having the exact same problem. Though, for some reason, the error continues. I don't know why. I'm also very new to Linux. Are there any other possibilities?

In addition to what suwat and genome suggested, for security reasons, check the following: "chroot_local_user=YES". If set to "YES", local users WILL NOT BE ABLE TO change to any directory other than inside their HOME dirs. Then, add the following "chroot_list_file=/etc/vsftpd.chroot_list", to tell vsftpd that only the users who is listed inside that file will be able to change to a directory outside of their HOME dirs. Restart vsftpd daemon and try it. Let us know if this worked.
