    help me on squid


    i have installed redhat 9.0 without selecting squid while installing i have downloaded squid2.5 from squid-cache.org and installed by giving these commands
    ./configure --enable-arp-acl --prefix=/usr/local/squid
    to enable squid with arp but now i dont know to start squid.
    i have tryied /usr/local/squid/sbin/squid start
    and also
    /etc/init.d/squid start
    it is coming to prompt in a second and squid is not starting
    please help me .

    Sounds like you didn't build the swap directories....

    /some/path/to/squid/sbin/squid -z

    Now try running squid with debugging...

    /some/path/to/squid/sbin/squid -NCd1

    If something fails grab the error from the logs and post the important looking parts.

    /some/path/to/squid/var/logs

    Did you do a "make install" after "./configure"?
