OpenLDAP+Samba+Apache

Hello,

I want to use openLDAP for Samba and Apache user authentication. I hope it can be done, but I have ones doubts. Apache module binds LDAP using username/password provided by the user. If bind succeed - user is authenticated else he isn't (I hope I'm not wrong). Samba is using these strange schema (samba.schema) and store password as SMB...PASSWD attribute.

I assume that samba binds LDAP as predefined user (in example: samba/secret) and check is that user exist. (Am I right?)

Many Howto documents describes howto use openLDAP+Samba (using samba.schema and smbldap-tools), but I thing it would not work with Apache too.

I've been working on an application called Zivios (Zivios - Open Source Enterprise Management) for over a year now. It provides you with an easy to use UI to configure various modules. The new version 0.6.0 is going to have many cosmetic as well as functional improvements (for example package management). It is scheduled to release late december this year. You can download version 0.5.1 from the website.

Another suggestion you might consider is Fedora Directory Server, which give you a nice LDAP database with a java-based front end. I found it easier to use than OpenLDAP. You don't have to be using Fedora or a RedHat based system to use it.
