Well you have to figure out what the problem is first. I would check /var/log/messages and /var/log/maillog

I meant in the log, what happens before the line that says starting postfix failed.

Check /var/log/messages
Don't worry about sasl yet Get post fix running and we can address sasl later. Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

Hi adrenaline,
Pls see above postings. Tks. It will be difficult to post the whole file here because of its size.Check /var/log/messages
# cat /var/log/maillog | tailOthers noted with tks.Code:Apr 6 21:23:38 host sendmail[5563]: alias database /etc/aliases rebuilt by sati mis Apr 6 21:23:38 host sendmail[5563]: /etc/aliases: 78 aliases, longest 10 bytes, 802 bytes total Apr 6 21:23:38 host postfix[5564]: fatal: /etc/postfix/main.cf, line 587: missi ng '=' after attribute name: "local_recipient_maps" setting in" Apr 6 21:31:10 host postfix[5617]: fatal: /etc/postfix/main.cf, line 587: missi ng '=' after attribute name: "local_recipient_maps" setting in" Apr 6 21:31:11 host sendmail[5620]: alias database /etc/aliases rebuilt by sati mis Apr 6 21:31:11 host sendmail[5620]: /etc/aliases: 78 aliases, longest 10 bytes, 802 bytes total Apr 6 21:31:11 host postfix[5621]: fatal: /etc/postfix/main.cf, line 587: missi ng '=' after attribute name: "local_recipient_maps" setting in" Apr 6 22:28:38 host authdaemond: Bad line in /etc/authlib/authdaemonrc: authpip e" Apr 6 22:41:49 host authdaemond: Bad line in /etc/authlib/authdaemonrc: authpip e" Apr 6 22:44:13 host authdaemond: Bad line in /etc/authlib/authdaemonrc: authpip e"

All you have to do is tail -f and it will start to tail the log last 10 lines I believe and then stays active.
If you tail -100 /var/log/messages this will give you the last 100 and so on
It looks to me like you don't have post fix configured right, but I use sendmail so I can't be much help. Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph.
