help with hosting FTP server
I just got into this whole self-hosting with linux thing, and it's really cool, but I'm getting a bit lost. I'm running vsftpd on Debian 4.0, and trying to connect the FTP to a domain from Godaddy.com. Oh, and, my server is running through a D-Link router. I was able to get vsftpd set up with valid usernames and everything seems to work. And now I'm stuck. I read something about DNS, but have no idea what it is or how to use it. Also, how should I take the router into account when setting everything up? Thanks in advance!

After several more days of looking around, I now understand that I need to setup two nameservers. Now, here's my question: Should I host my own nameservers or just have free hosting from someone else online?
