I would like to build a CentOS LAMP server.

What is the best solution for installing LAMP services that makes it easy for future updates.

I tried YUM and it seems to be working great, but when I use the CentOS's GUI System Settings -> Add/Remove Applications, the installed applications do not appear as "checked"

Can anybody please give me advise on the best way to install/update applications, I really appreciate it.
