I have a problem here i have NIS runnng and al clients are now binded to me and they can't login except as users, what if i want to login on the clients machines to change in the configuration files or install new application to have any root privilage ............
I don't think this is permitted forever it is not logic but i can't solve this problem, help me please
I haven't played with NIS in a while, but from what I can remember it works this way...
You can set the root account to authenticate locally by not including the root account in the NIS map. Set your clients to check NIS first and then check the local passwd file (in /etc/nsswitch.conf). When it can't find root on NIS it will look to passwd and authenticate.
