I am currently running my linux box as a fileserve for our network. I linked everyones 'My Documents" folder to a folder on my network drive shared with samba, but the problem is that peopl arn't taking space serious, and are keeping all there music on the shared drive. Is there a way to limit the amount of space that a folder can use w/o creating a separate partition for it? ( I would prefer something premptive, i dont want to just run a script that deletes or warns when someone goes over the limit)
you can do quotas. i myself don't have much experience with them, but i have heard of them. i would recomend you go to my favorite site for tutorials, http://www-136.ibm.com/developerworks/. just type in quotas in the search and it will give you most likely a ton of tutorials on it.
