Hi all,
i have got httpd 2.2.8 tar file,
i need to install it. and start the httpd service
i tried extracting throu "extract here" in /usr/local/ folder
httpd2.2.8 folder was created but when i tried "service httpd start"
it says httpd: not recognised
i have rpm file for httpd2.0, i need 2.2.8
plz help

What distribution are you using? There's two thing that stand out there...either it's a source tarball and it needs to be compiled and installed correctly, or at best you need to insert a service for httpd using chkconfig or its equivalent.
On a side note if you used 'extract here' in /usr/local you are likely running your desktop as root...that's a terrible idea and will almost certainly cause you trouble in the future.
