Interpreting Squid data
Ive been setting up a squid proxy in my computer at home, following a tutorial here http://www.freeos.com/articles/2516/, as well as other materials. Ok, my squid is up and running for about a week now. At least, I put my squid IP into my browser settings on my other PC and im able to browse the web.
So i decided to check out the DIR "/var/spool/squid 100 16 256" as per the tutorial(link I mentioned above) since it mentioned thats the cache DIR. I see a lot of numbers....everything from DIR names 00 - FF. I 'cd' into them to find other DIRs etc...i continue CDing and lastly theres nothing inside the DIR/DIR/DIR.
I just wanted to ask how to interpret data, or at least make sure that my proxy is actually doing what its supposed to do.....for example, if I visit www.google.com on a client machine(desktop), i expect to find the URL visited logged somewhere in my squid DIRs...etc
the best log analyzer I have ever used for squid is http://sarg.sourceforge.net/
Squid Analysis Report Generator
works very nicely and is easy to use
