ProFTPD - Sooooo Slow - running on Madriva 10.2

Just installed Madriva 10.2 on a box to be a Web DEV environment.

The default FTP Server is ProFTP and I've used it before with Fedora so I thought everything would be fine

The problem I am having is that everything - logging on, changing directories, uploading files, downloading files is taking an incredibly long time. The system feels painfully slow and unresponsive.

The box it's running on isnt' doing much else at the moment besides running vncserver. Where are the place to look to troubleshoot the problem? What should I be looking for and how can I help you guys to help me sort this?
