Samba as PDC with an Old Computer
Hello All,
I'm going to be setting up a Samba server to control logon of some Windows computers.
As we are a charity based organisation, we can't afford the costs of Windows so will be using Samba, also the computer which will perform the task is a Pentium 2 based machine, of around 300MHz.
Unaware how much ram at this stage as its still buried in junk awaiting salvage. However as I remember it PCs around that time had about 128mb ram.
I have a 2gb hard drive which I wish to use with it, or failing that it'll get an 8gb.
Going by my base spec (300MHz, 128mb RAM and 2gb HDD) and no need to run a GUI what would be the best distribution to use to run Samba with?
Many thanks for any suggestions
Samba & Openldap as Primary Domain Controller PDC
I have a how-to on my website http://www.opensourcehowto.org for setting up samba as a primary domain controller (PDC)
OpenLDAP LAM Samba as PDC

and if you feeling a little bit more adventurous later on you could try getting into the policies with samba
