i know that gnome supports the viewing of smb server and those workgroups vy typeiing sbm:/// in the title bar, but in KDE and konqeror i get an error that reads 'share could not be faound on given server' does anyone have anyideas as how to fix this and chare files on my windows network?
i think by typing smb:/// ur trying to access your own(localhost) root directory which i done think smb would share. about sharing with windows, a useful tool for newbies would be a software called LinNeighborhood. it gives you a view like network neighborhood under windows. Also ensure that your SMB and NMB services are running and the /etc/samba/smb.conf file is edited to suit your need.
That should allow you to share with your windows network
Gnome has a build in smb browser.
KDE need the LISA deamon to browse the 'network neighbourhood'.
You'll need to configure it first in the KDE Control Panel, than start the deamon. And it should work.
If only someone could hack the Nautilus into KDE... :D
actually linNeighborhood works like a charm for KDE
