I'm doing research for a Open Source Software/Linux class project. The project, as assigned, is to create a server and system for a 'server for hire' hosting company.
Examples of what I'm aiming for:
Geocities.com, create a webpage.
Go to typefrag.com, pay for a ventrilo server.
Go to gameservers.com and pay for a counter strike server.
Needs to be
customizable (Rising pay for more customers, more cpu dedication, etc)
expandable (examples I gave each host one type of server... I'm aiming to have more options to host, maybe complete packages: game server, voice server, clan webpage, etc all in one package)
dynamic (I just mentioned 3 possible services to host)
I'm just looking for advice mainly. Where is a good place to start? What are some recommended distro's? Server software (in addition to relatively standard stuff? Are there any good prebuild bases to start with?
Thanks for any time and advice given :)
best place to start is google :)
