Tomcat as Web Server
I'm a Linux Niewbie and i would like to ask if its possoble to
use Tomcat as a standalone Web Server without Apache. I have a
linux server (openSuse 10.2) with Tomcat 5.5.20, mySql 4.1.22,
j2sdk 184.108.40.206 and j connector 3.0.17. I've changed Tomcats 8080
port to 80. The machine has static IP, and the IP has been
mapped into a domain name under a real domain
(e.g server.example.com). How can i see teh server.example.com
from another PC??
Thanx in advance
I'm no expert on Tomcat, but according to this setup guide you only need to have Java installed, not apache.
With the connection problem have you tried connecting by using the machine's IP address? You may need to set up a DNS server or add entries to /etc/hosts on the machine you're connecting from to conver the name into an IP address automatically.
Thanx for your quick reply.
I've tried the IP address but it doesn't work so probably the problem is not
the DNS server. All the pc's in the LAB use the same DNS server on which the
mapping for my machine exists.
