VNC server not running????????

I am new to Linux and have trouble understanding errors.

I recently installed realVNC server on my linux machine (office). When I issue command "vncserver", then it shows three lines. This means it gives my machine ip, show xstartup line and log file line. I assume that it is now running. But when I really try to see whether it is running or not by typing command netstat -an then I don't see any thing having port# 5800 0r 5900. Is my server running or not? :cry:

At home I have windows XP when I use VNC viewer on windows to connect to my office machine then It displays "unable to connect to host: Connection timed out(10060)". I have checked my server address many times and believe is right.

Any help will be reatly appreciated.

Hm.. I'd check the VNC server logs.. also, you can see the output of ps aux and see if it's running or not.

How ca n I check server logs? I tried ps aux command but I did not see runing server.

I also tried installing VNC using rpm (follow tutorial given in forum), but it did not install and thorw error as

Failed dependencies: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 is needed by vnc-3.3.6-2
suggeted resolutions: compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.122.i386.rpm

You would need to install those packages and try again.

but didn't find. Could someone please help me finding it?

I am using Redhat Linux not exactly sure about version number (may be 8+). How can I check exact version? Actually it is in my office but I ca ssh and check if I know command.

Look in /etc/, there's usually a file named redhat-version or something like that.
