Angry Creative X-Fi Elite Pro not working in KDE

Hey guys
I'm new to all this, so please bare with me if I make stupid comments
Current system setup:
AMD X2 64 4800+
2GB RAM
Biostar NF61S Micro AM2 SE 6.1 Motherboard
nVidia GeForce 8800GT
Creative X-Fi Elite Pro Sound card

Now what I've done recently is upgrade to 2.6.17.13-smp kernel and all is working except my sound and networking. If I run lspci it picks up both network and sound so I'm assuming that both my card and network NIC are supported, but as soon as I start X I get an error stating that it couldn't start the sound server or something, I've played around with both the ALSA config and networking config but had no luck, this is quite frustrating considering I've been able to recompile the kernel, install the latest nVidia drivers and reconfigure xorg.conf to suppose my wireless desktop and scroll button on my mouse.
I know there is a 64bit beta driver for creative but my OS is 32bit, but unless anyone is willing to guide me through recompiling to support 64bit I'd like to get my sound and networking working under my current setup.

Any help thanks guys.
