I have installed Slackware 10 into my acer travelmate laptop. During installation it detected my firewire cdrw. This the boot-up message:

the mounted device is /dev/sr0

After installation, I edit fstab with
/dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,user,ro 0,0

and also in lilo.conf, I added append="hdc=ide-scsi"


However, after installation, it gives the message no block device whenever I tried to mount the cdrw.

I'm very appreciate if somebody could help me on this
From the question, you can guest that I'm totally newbie in linux.
The last thing I'm expected is to recompile the kernel.

I am new to Slackware but in RED Hat my scsi was scd0. Might be different in slackware.

Try typing /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug start. If you get a error message type chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug and then try again. Then type cdrecord -scanbus to see if it is there. After that try mounting it again.

I'm also symlink the device by typing this command.

ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrom

I've also checked that I have modprobe these device:

Finally I've got it worked.
I have to put this magic command (in su mode): rescan-scsi-bus
This text will appear after the command.

However, I can only eject the cd by typing eject command, not by pressing the eject button.

Any suggestion how I can automatically run this command during start-up?

First of all it must be
/dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom or(writer) as adrenaline told.
And you dont need to give the command every time.

But if you cant fix as i told you can put the command in your
/etc/rc.d/rc.local file.

Something about eject; If you unmuont the writer you can use the button.
