Sound error message
I created a new user and when I logged into it I received the error message at

Informational - artsmessage
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound server:

device /dev/dsp can't be opened (Permission denied)

The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

What could be the cause of this?

Do you have sound as other users? Is the new user in the correct group? I think it would be the audio group. To add users to the group for audio
